Have you ever wondered, "Gee, I wish I knew where I could find a big, dirty buffalo to rub it's head on the grill of my car?" If you have, then African Safari Wildlife Park is for you! It is located "17 miles from Cedar Point" and is a must stop place if you are in the area.
My friend and I traveled there this past summer and had the greatest time. The day started with a drive through the safari. We bought food to feed the animals and drove through the big, metal gates. Once inside, we had a small pack of deer following our car. We were able to open the windows and feed them, which made the experience interactive.
After that, we had a buffalo put it's head in the car and try to steal the food bucket. My friend was able to stop it, before it took the whole bucket, and got food all over the inside of my car. It was hysterical! Another buffalo came over and rubbed it's head on the grill of my car. Then, it proceeded to stick it's big, muddy head inside my car! My friend got covered in dirt. It was so funny.
After the buffalo left the car side, we headed to another enclosed area where we were able to feed giraffes and zebras. The giraffes were behind six-foot high fences, but were able to hang their heads low enough to eat through the windows. We opened the sunroof and offered the food through there.
When we were done with the safari drive-though, we headed to the main walk-through area. African Safari Wildlife Park offers "rides and shows Memorial day to Labor day." It's free to watch the shows, which makes it a true deal. We saw a show about snakes and got to hold a six-foot snake. They had a photographer there to take pictures, but we opted to use our own camera. After, we were going to ride a camel, but we weighed too much (the limit is 100 lbs). Along the paths, they had monkeys and birds in cages.
We ate pizza and hot dogs at the outdoor dining area and had ice cream after. They also offered french fries, several different types of pop, popcorn, chips, and other assorted goodies. Along with that, there was a small grill there where one could purchase hamburgers and other grilled food.
Then, we walked to the "Pork Chop Downs" and watched the little piggies race around the track. The guy who narrated the whole race had some pretty cheesie jokes and offered audience participation with a pig squealing contest. The children and elderly in the audience loved him. My friend and I thought his jokes were really bad. We ended our trip with a quick run through the gift shop. There were tee shirts, mugs, stuffed animals, and other assorted goodies.
The price of the park was $15.95 per person, but my friend and I went to the website and were able to print out a coupon for $3.00 off the regular price. I think that there may be a discounted price for children, but I am not sure. You may want to call first.
